The 2026 Safe Roads Scholarship

The Safe Roads Scholarship by Holland & Usry, P.A. invites South Carolina students to explore one of today’s most pressing roadway safety issues and propose meaningful solutions. We encourage applicants to examine dangers such as distracted, impaired, or reckless driving and how these threats impact drivers and communities across South Carolina

Students should also consider how drivers, lawmakers, and modern technology can work together to reduce accidents and create safer, more responsible roads. Through this scholarship, Holland & Usry aims to inspire thoughtful ideas that promote awareness, accountability, and long-term roadway safety for everyone. The application deadline is August 31, 2026.

Award Amount: $1000

Eligibility

  • The scholarship is open to any current high school senior, vocational student, college student, or graduate student who is a legal resident of South Carolina and is enrolled in a vocational program or a two- to four-year post-secondary institution.
  • Employees of Firm Name, their immediate families (parent, child, sibling, and spouse), and persons living in the same households of such individuals (whether related or not), are not eligible to participate in the competition. 
  • Candidates for this scholarship should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher and be in good overall academic standing.

Application Requirements

  • The candidate must fill out the form below with all necessary information
  • The candidate must submit a 750-1,000-word essay response to the prompt: Car accidents are a leading cause of injury and death, often resulting from distracted driving, impaired driving, or reckless behavior. For this scholarship, analyze a major safety issue on today’s roads and propose effective strategies to reduce accidents. How can drivers, lawmakers, and technology play a role in creating safer roadways for everyone?
  • Please note that all essays will be checked for AI writing. If AI-generated writing is detected in the essay, the application will be denied.
  • The candidate must submit a professional résumé listing their experience, both professional and academic.
  • The candidate must submit a transcript from their current school. First-year college students, graduate students, or individuals who have recently transferred schools may submit an unofficial transcript from their current school, along with the most recent official transcript from their prior school. High school students can submit proof of acceptance to their college or university.
  • Preference will be given to students either from or attending secondary school in the state.

The recipient of the 2026 Safe Roads Scholarship will be chosen during the month following the scholarship deadline.
